My Top 10 Proposal Locations Spots in Ireland

7 April 2025 - Proposals

Are you ready to pop the big question? It doesn’t matter if you live here or if you’re visiting on holiday, Ireland is one of the most romantic places in the world for a marriage proposal. From dramatic cliffs to castles and hidden forests, there’s something special about its cities and countryside that makes proposing all the more magical.

Make your marriage proposal one they won’t forget by planning it to perfection at my top 10 proposal spots in Ireland!

Why Choose Ireland?

Ireland is a land of unrivalled beauty, with landscapes that range from the wild Atlantic coastline to lush green hills and castle ruins. Ireland’s rich culture and legends make it the perfect proposal destination.

Do you have a strong affiliation with the Irish people? Whether you have family ties or just love the Irish spirit, this connection makes it the most proposal destination for you!

Have you ever stayed in a castle? You can make your proposal extra special by staying in one of the many Irish castle hotels on the island. My favourites include Ashford Castle and Dromoland Castle.

Howth Cliff Path

Howth is a charming seaside town, located just a short distance outside Dublin. The Cliff Path spans 8km and gives a beautiful view of the Baily lighthouse and would make the perfect proposal spot!

If you’re basing yourself in Dublin for your Ireland trip, this should be your number one spot as it’s accessible by bus and train. You can make this a full day-trip to enjoy the quaint town and try some of lovely restaurants – their speciality is seafood, which I’d highly recommend!

It’s not as well-known as other some locations, which means it should be a lot quieter so you can have more privacy for your proposal.

The Cliffs of Moher

The Cliffs of Moher are one of Ireland’s top tourist destinations. They stretch 8km and are over 200m high.

They’re located just 90 miles from Galway City, which would be perfect place to stay while you’re visiting the Cliffs of Moher.

There are currently major path closures at the Cliffs of Moher, which makes proposing here more challenging if you’re visiting on a tour. I would recommend going to Hag’s Head, which is the most southerly point of the Cliffs. You can check out some of my proposals at the Cliffs of Moher here.

Kinbane Castle

Kinbane Castle is one of the best hidden gems along the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland. It’s located on a headland and gives you a beautiful view of Fair Head (a Game of Thrones location that you need to see).

You have to be prepared to walk to see this stunning location, I mean there’s over a 100 steps to climb to get there. It might sound easy but it’s a killer on the way back!

The ruins of the castle, alongside the surrounding views of the beautiful headland make this the perfect spot for your proposal. We can also visit some other close-by locations for more beautiful images!

Dingle Peninsula

Dingle is a seaside town that has some of the most beautiful scenic drives in Ireland. The Conor’s Pass immerses you in the beautiful mountains around Dingle, whereas the Slea Head Drive shows you the rugged beauty of the Dingle Peninsula.

At the end of the Dingle Peninsula, the Dunquin Pier and Dunmore Head are located. These two give you a beautiful view of the Skellig Islands (one of the filming locations in Star Wars) and would it the most magical proposal location.

There are many beautiful places to stay and eat in Dingle town, where you can also experience some traditional music in the local Irish bars.

Giants Causeway

The Giant’s Causeway is the biggest tourist attraction in Northern Ireland and has one of the most recognisable views on the island. It’s located 90 minutes from Belfast and consists of hexagonal basalt rock columns that were formed by a volcanic eruption.

Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Giant’s Causeway also includes lots of beautiful trails for you to explore the landscape in multiple different ways. I would highly recommend visiting Hamilton’s Seat, which gives the most beautiful view of the Causeway in all its beauty (it’s well worth the walk) and would be the most romantic proposal spot.

Do you want to make your proposal extra special? I would highly recommend visiting the Causeway in the evening and watching the sunset.

Slieve League

Slieve League is located in Donegal, arguably one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland. The Slieve League cliffs are one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, standing at 600m tall and eclipsing the height of the Cliffs of Moher.

Slieve League are part of the Wild Atlantic Way, a beautiful drive along the west coast of Ireland that highlights some of the most stunning parts of the island.

Do you want to make your proposal even more magical? You should watch the sunset behind these stunning cliffs

Mourne Mountains

The Mourne Mountains are located in County Down, Northern Ireland and were one of the inspirations for Narnia, a book series by Northern Irish author CS Lewis.

There are numerous beautiful locations and viewpoints within the Mournes, some of which don’t require a long hike. You can check out some of the best spots in another blog.

Do you want to get a beautiful view of the Mournes but not have to do any walking? Visit Murlough Beach, just outside Newcastle for the most beautiful view of the Mournes.

Dunseverick Castle

You can’t say no to a castle proposal! Dunseverick Castle is located on the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland and while only ruins remain, it’s one of my favourite spots in this area.

Dunseverick showcases not just the castle ruins, but the rugged cliffs that make this part of Ireland so special.

Do you want to make your proposal even more special? Let’s visit another stunning location nearby – the Giant’s Causeway and other Game of Thrones locations are just around the corner from Dunseverick!

Lough Tay, Wicklow Mountains

Are you like me and love the mountains? Whenever I’m not working, I love to explore hike in the mountains – it’s such a great way to explore nature and clear your head!

The Wicklow Mountains are located just one hour outside Dublin. Glendalough is one of the most recognisable landmarks within this area but Lough Tay is my favourite as it has beautiful views of the sprawling Wicklow mountains.

You may recognise it from Lindsay Lohan’s film Irish Wish and it’s right beside a filming location for PS I Love You, another popular Irish film with Gerald Butler. If your other half is a fan of either of those films, it would make the most romantic proposal spot.

Mussenden Temple

Mussenden Temple is located on the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland. What makes this location even more magical is that you can explore this temple up-close and from far away. The neighbouring Downhill Beach affords you the stunning view of the temple on the cliffside, while exploring one of the beautiful beaches which make the Causeway Coast so revered.
