5 Simple Wedding Planning Tips

14 September 2022 - Wedding Advice

You’ve just gotten engaged! It’s an exciting time, and you’ve got lots to look forward to. But planning your Big Day can be a daunting task. You may feel overwhelmed at times, which can drain some of the fun out of the overall experience. This doesn’t have to be the case, though.

Here are 5 simple tips to help make your wedding planning experience more straightforward.

Do it your way

Everyone is going to give you an opinion about what your wedding should be like, but don’t let their ideas affect your plans. If you have a vision for your wedding day, make it happen! It can be as quirky or traditional as you like – if you make it about you and your future spouse, you can’t go wrong.

As a wedding photographer in Northern Ireland, I’ve always found that the happiest couples on their wedding day are the ones who make it their own. Karen and Chris had their wedding ceremony in Queen’s Film Theatre, and while they were getting their photographs taken, they put on a film for their guests to enjoy! How epic is that?!

Know your budget

It’s good to have an idea of what you want to spend on each element of your wedding. Shortly after you’ve got engaged, and before you’ve contacted suppliers, sit down together and think about the most important parts of your wedding day. Where they sit in your list of priorities is likely to determine how much you’re going to budget for them!

Where do your wedding photos sit in that list?

Take your time

It can be easy to get overwhelmed when you first start planning! Take your time and get the important things sorted first – venue, ceremony location, photographer, wedding/bridesmaids dresses (they can take a long time to arrive!) and your flowers.

When planning our wedding, I found it was useful to make a shortlist of people to contact. This usually consisted of 2-3 suppliers based on personal experience or recommendations – I usually made an appointment or gave them a call to get more of a feel for their work, which allowed me to make an informed decision without being overwhelmed by choice.

I would highly recommend chatting to your wedding photographer and videographers over the phone or meet in person before you book them. You’re going spending all day on your wedding with them, so you need to like them!

There is so much talent within the Northern Ireland wedding industry, and you want to find the people who you’re going to work best with and who you’ll trust to encapsulate your day and style perfectly! That being said, if there is someone you really want to book, get them booked right away so you get your date secured!

Book Vendors who suit your Style and Vision

Every artist has their own style. It’s important to choose wedding vendors who compliment the style of your wedding. Whether you choose to have a simple, elegant, quirky or extravagant day, it’s important to choose vendors who will reflect your approach.

Enjoy it!

Even though it may seem stressful and overwhelming at first, you’re planning the day when you’ll get to marry your best friend! When you make it about the two of you and focus on the fact you’re committing the rest of your life to each other, it’ll be plain sailing.
