A Surprise Proposal at the Cliffs of Moher

12 August 2022 - Proposals

Updated March 2025

The Cliffs of Moher are one of the most beautiful and recognisable parts of Ireland. If you’re travelling to Ireland, it’s one of the places that should be on your list to visit!

There are currently extensive path closures along the Cliffs, so I recommend that you visit Hag’s Head. It’s the most southern part of the Cliffs and has some beautiful views!

I’m a frequent visitor to the Cliffs of Moher and have had the privilege of photographing a number of proposals here. Check out their stories below:

Kyle and Stephanie

These two are the sweetest couple and it was such an honour to capture their proposal! Kyle got in touch about planning a somewhat surprise proposal (his words!) to Stephanie while they were visiting Ireland.

While we discussed a few locations, the Cliffs of Moher were the definite favourite. Due to the path closures, Hag’s Head was the best viewpoint to get the ensure we got the most privacy.

We had the place entirely to ourselves when we arrived. Kyle headed to his chosen spot and I pretended to take some landscape photos until got down on his knee. Stephanie’s reaction was super sweet and I love when she spotted me (a real Jim Halpert moment!).

These two have lots of similar interests, including their love of performing in a variety of different ways. We had to include one of these during the shoot, so they showed off their dancing skills!

Hunter and Sarah

Hunter and Sarah booked a trip around Europe, with Ireland as their first stop. They decided to book a photoshoot at the Cliffs of Moher during their trip – unbeknownst to Sarah, Hunter had got in touch with me about his plans to propose to Sarah during their photoshoot.

We met at the Cliffs just as golden hour was descending. While we made our way to the viewpoint, we talked about their plans for the rest of their Europe trip.

When we arrived at the viewpoint, the light hitting the Cliffs was stunning. As we were about to start our photoshoot, Hunter got down on one knee and surprised Sarah with his proposal – her reaction says it all!

We had to battle some strong winds but we got some beautiful photos while having lots of fun! What a brilliant way to celebrate this special moment!

Harsh and Sargoon

Harsh was travelling to Ireland from Philadelphia for a long-awaited holiday with his girlfriend Sargoon! He got in touch about surprising Sargoon by proposing at the Cliffs of Moher during their trip.

With the help of her friends, Harsh surprised Sargoon by picking an outfit for Sargoon for this special occasion (how romantic!). She is my absolute hero and icon because she walked in block heels to the viewpoint without having any trouble!

When we got the viewpoint, I love capturing Sargoon’s reaction when Harsh had dropped to one knee! The shock, delight and hug says it all! Shortly afterwards, they FaceTimed some friends who were eagerly awaiting the happy news!

We enjoyed a gorgeous sunset at the Cliffs – there wasn’t a soul around so we had the place to ourselves. We had to battle some fairly strong winds at times (pretty standard for the Cliffs) but it was totally worth it.

Harsh and Sargoon are both doctors so naturally we had to talk about Grey’s Anatomy (I’m a massive fan!). They are the sweetest couple and it was such a honour to capture this special moment for them!

Brandon and Taylor

One of my favourite parts about helping plan your proposal is getting to know you both from one of your perspectives. When Brandon got in touch about planning his proposal to Taylor at the Cliffs of Moher a few weeks before they made the trip, I was excited to make his capture this special moment.

Once we found ourselves in the same place, I followed Brandon and Taylor down to the viewpoint. Numerous times along the path, Brandon had to text me to make sure they were going the right way! Once he reached the viewpoint, Taylor asked me to take a photo of the two of them. When she turned around, Brandon was down on one knee and she was so shocked and delighted!

We headed down to another viewpoint to get some more shots before finishing by getting some photos at the place where Brandon proposed. His dirty knee in the photos just mades me smile. What a beautiful way to capture this special moment!

Also, how beautiful is Taylor’s ring?!

Juno and Chloe

Juno and Chloe were travelling to Europe for Chloe’s sister’s elopement in London. They decided to make the most of the trip by visiting Scotland, Ireland and Iceland before heading back home to Seattle.

Juno had got in touch about proposing to Chloe at the Cliffs of Moher, which was in the middle of their European trip. After chatting on Zoom, we planned the proposal for a sunset at one of the viewpoints at the Cliffs.

When Juno arrived at the Cliffs, they had to have a quick stop off to get something to eat for Chloe – the last thing we wanted was her to be hangry for the proposal and photoshoot afterwards. Although, I don’t think the slight delay helped with Juno’s nerves!

I followed them to the viewpoint and tried to be incognito by pretending to take photos of the beautiful sunset. Chloe asked me to take a photo of her and Juno, and I knew the proposal would be imminent. Once he dropped to one knee, her shock and sheer delight was so beautiful to capture!

The ring Juno chose (with help from Chloe’s sister) is one of the most beautiful and unique I’ve ever seen!

We celebrated the moment by enjoying the stunning sunset and getting some beautiful photos!

Will and Mary

Will and Mary were travelling to Ireland as part of a European trip. They had previously visited London, the Highlands and Edinburgh before heading to the Emerald Isle.

A few weeks before their trip, Will got in touch about his plans to propose to Mary at the Cliffs of Moher. They were due to be there around Easter, so we he planned to pop the question on Easter Sunday. The Irish weather had other plans and we had to hastily change plans to Easter Monday at a day’s notice. It was definitely worth it as we got beautiful weather.

After following them down to the viewpoint, Mary asked me to take a photo of the two of them. After she had a look at them, Will got down on one knee. Mary’s reaction couldn’t have been more perfect – her excitement and delight was clear!

We got some photos here to celebrate this special moment before heading to get something to eat and then going to Hag’s Head for sunset. As the most southernly part of the Cliffs, it’s more rugged and free than around the Visitor’s Centre and is one of my favourite parts of the Cliffs of Moher. It was the perfect way to celebrate their engagement!
