The Cliffs of Moher are one of the most beautiful and recognisable parts of Ireland. If you’re travelling to Ireland, it’s one of the places that should be on your list to visit!
I’m a frequent visitor to the Cliffs of Moher and have had the privilege of photographing a number of proposals here. Check out their stories below:
Hunter and Sarah
Hunter and Sarah booked a trip around Europe, with Ireland as their first stop. They decided to book a photoshoot at the Cliffs of Moher during their trip – unbeknownst to Sarah, Hunter had got in touch with me about his plans to propose to Sarah during their photoshoot.
We met at the Cliffs just as golden hour was descending. While we made our way to the viewpoint, we talked about their plans for the rest of their Europe trip.
When we arrived at the viewpoint, the light hitting the Cliffs was stunning. As we were about to start our photoshoot, Hunter got down on one knee and surprised Sarah with his proposal – her reaction says it all!
We had to battle some strong winds but we got some beautiful photos while having lots of fun! What a brilliant way to celebrate this special moment!
Brandon and Taylor
One of my favourite parts about helping plan your proposal is getting to know you both from one of your perspectives. When Brandon got in touch about planning his proposal to Taylor at the Cliffs of Moher a few weeks before they made the trip, I was excited to make his capture this special moment.
Once we found ourselves in the same place, I followed Brandon and Taylor down to the viewpoint. Numerous times along the path, Brandon had to text me to make sure they were going the right way! Once he reached the viewpoint, Taylor asked me to take a photo of the two of them. When she turned around, Brandon was down on one knee and she was so shocked and delighted!
We headed down to another viewpoint to get some more shots before finishing by getting some photos at the place where Brandon proposed. His dirty knee in the photos just mades me smile. What a beautiful way to capture this special moment!
Also, how beautiful is Taylor’s ring?!
Juno and Chloe
Juno and Chloe were travelling to Europe for Chloe’s sister’s elopement in London. They decided to make the most of the trip by visiting Scotland, Ireland and Iceland before heading back home to Seattle.
Juno had got in touch about proposing to Chloe at the Cliffs of Moher, which was in the middle of their European trip. After chatting on Zoom, we planned the proposal for a sunset at one of the viewpoints at the Cliffs.
When Juno arrived at the Cliffs, they had to have a quick stop off to get something to eat for Chloe – the last thing we wanted was her to be hangry for the proposal and photoshoot afterwards. Although, I don’t think the slight delay helped with Juno’s nerves!
I followed them to the viewpoint and tried to be incognito by pretending to take photos of the beautiful sunset. Chloe asked me to take a photo of her and Juno, and I knew the proposal would be imminent. Once he dropped to one knee, her shock and sheer delight was so beautiful to capture!
The ring Juno chose (with help from Chloe’s sister) is one of the most beautiful and unique I’ve ever seen!
We celebrated the moment by enjoying the stunning sunset and getting some beautiful photos!
Will and Mary
Will and Mary were travelling to Ireland as part of a European trip. They had previously visited London, the Highlands and Edinburgh before heading to the Emerald Isle.
A few weeks before their trip, Will got in touch about his plans to propose to Mary at the Cliffs of Moher. They were due to be there around Easter, so we he planned to pop the question on Easter Sunday. The Irish weather had other plans and we had to hastily change plans to Easter Monday at a day’s notice. It was definitely worth it as we got beautiful weather.
After following them down to the viewpoint, Mary asked me to take a photo of the two of them. After she had a look at them, Will got down on one knee. Mary’s reaction couldn’t have been more perfect – her excitement and delight was clear!
We got some photos here to celebrate this special moment before heading to get something to eat and then going to Hag’s Head for sunset. As the most southernly part of the Cliffs, it’s more rugged and free than around the Visitor’s Centre and is one of my favourite parts of the Cliffs of Moher. It was the perfect way to celebrate their engagement!
Matt and Laura
Matt was travelling to Ireland from Dallas, Texas for a long-awaited holiday with his girlfriend Laura! While he initially got in touch about getting some photos taken at the Cliffs of Moher, after a few emails he revealed that he was planning to propose to Laura. After discussing a range of places, we decided that Doolin Pier would be the perfect spot as you get a gorgeous view of the cliffs without it being as busy!
After lots of messages being exchanged, we found ourselves in the same place. I tried to look incognito when taking photos of the view, while quietly scanning the area to see where Matt was headed. I love Laura’s reaction when Matt had dropped to one knee! The shock, delight and hug says it all!
After getting some portraits at Doolin Pier, we headed to the Cliffs of Moher. The cliffs were bathed in a beautiful golden light, as we enjoyed a stunning sunset. What better way to celebrate your engagement?
I had suggested going for a sunrise session the next morning, weather depending (as with everything in Ireland!). Hag’s Head, the most southernly point of the Cliffs, would be our destination. Despite Matt not being able to find his keys that morning, we all made it down in time to enjoy a gorgeous sunrise.
Hag’s Head is a lot more open and rugged than the area around the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre. There wasn’t another soul about, and we were able to roam around this beautiful place while getting some pretty epic portraits. It was worth the early start!
